QUITO

QUITO COLONIAL


CITY TOUR


Time: 3 Hours


It is a visit to the tourist places of colonial modern and Old Quito declared "Patrimony of the Humanity in 1978" by UNESCO.

Tour:

·                     Guapulo Viewpoint: The Francisco de Orellana departure place of for the discovery of the Amazon river; from here we admire the valley of Tumbaco here besides volcanoes Cayambe and Antisana.

·                     Independence Square: In the center of the square, there is  a granite monolith of 30 meters of height. In the superior level in representation of the independence from Spain; in the low part of the monolith are several bronze sculptures where several wounded lions stand out and a condor (bird standard of the Andean towns) stepping on several Spanish flags.
·                     Carondelet Palace: Of neoclassic style, it was builted by Baron de Carondelet who was the president of the Real Hearing of Quito and executor of several monuments.

·                     Archiepiscopal Palace: Of neoclassic aspect, he was builted with the effect to lodge to the archbishopric of the city, his 7 inner patios constitute true attractive tourist asi like his carved stone columns.  

·                     Metropolitan Cathedral: It is one of the religious symbols of great characteristics and spiritual value. This temple was constructed on a small church done of marinates and straw, but, when occurring the foundation of Quito was its construction began in 1562, seventeen years after the bishopric of Quito was created (1545). After several earthquakes and problems of physical aspect, the construction culminated in 1806, by work of Baron Hector de Carondelet.

·                     Compañia de Jesus The Church initiated its construction in 1605 delayed 160 years in being built. For 1765 the temple finalized the work with the construction of the facade. This was done by natives who carefully shaped the baroque style in one of the most complete examples of the art in America. For 1767 the church was closed because of the expulsion of the Jesuits of Ecuador. Forty years later, in 1807, it was reopened by the Chilean friar Camilo Enríquez, of the order of the Good death?

·                     San Francisco convent: A greatest architectonic sets of the historical centers of the cities of Ibero-America and was financed with alms and taxes collected in Spain like in other American colonies. San Francisco is constructed on the old temple of Huayna-Capac and an old place of commercial interchange between the mountain range and the east. He counts the legend that a called Indian Cantuña committed itself to construct the vestibule of the temple of San Francisco. The time of delivery was short and Cantuña was not going to finalize the work in the decided term, in such a way that when lost seeing itself, made a pact with the Devil; this one, in return, requested its soul to him, and Cantuña accepted. The devils began the construction that delayed one night. When Lucifer came to look for the soul of Cantuña, he discovered that he lacked a stone to place and by such reason the pact was annulled. Thus he saved his soul.

Located at  20 km to the north of Quito, we take a visit to the monument of middle of the world that symbolizes the geodesic expedition of 1736, place 0° 0' 0' ' which it divides to the planet in two hemispheres, visiting the located ethnographic museum in the interior of the monument.

Once visited, we visited the solar museum of the Inti-Ñan that explains the position of Ecuador and its magnetism.

CITY BY NIGHT

The night trip around the city: A visit to the colonial downtown that will ends in Guapulo or San Blas one of  the viewpoints of Quito or in a folfloric “Jachigua” dance if the tour is on Wednesday.
